After the distemper scare a couple weeks ago at the Odessa Animal Shelter, the dogs were tested to see if they had distemper.

According to NewsWest 9, the dogs that were scheduled to be put down were tested and were not found to have distemper.

The Odessa shelter was planning on putting down 140 dogs but a group out of Austin called American Pets Alive! flew in to help test and save the animals.

The shelter was evacuated and disinfected and is now implementing new intake procedures to prevent the scare of an outbreak in the future.

American Pets Alive! will follow up with the shelter in January to make sure the new procedures have been implemented and offer more education and resources.
