A new Texas law goes into effect next month that will prevent parents who are six months or more behind on child support payments from being able to renew their vehicle registration.

According to NewsWest 9, the office of the attorney general says the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles can begin to refuse renewal of vehicle registration to any parent that is six months or more behind on child support payments.

Parents will be notified 90 days before their vehicle registration is due to expire and once they are current on all child support payments, they will be able to renew their registration.
