More than twenty bridges in the Midland/Odessa area were hit by semi-trucks last year, so now state officials and non-profit organizations are looking into how this can be prevented.

According to NewsWest 9, one of those non-profit organizations is the Midland Odessa Transportation Alliance who are trying to figure out some prevention methods such as going after the driver's bond or criminal charges.

The repair of such accidents are a lengthy process. The Stanton bridge was demolished earlier this week after being struck earlier this month by an over-sized load.

West Loop 250 over Interstate 20 is another bridge that has been needing repair for over a year and now those repairs have been put on hold since this past November.

TxDOT says they are getting Over Height Dedication Systems with warning lights on the bridges which will warn the truck that their load is too tall and to take the next exit to avoid coming in contact with the bridge.

Installation is scheduled to begin in the Spring of 2019.
