New Gun Control Measures Shot Down In The Senate

Good news for gun owners and freedom lovers: The bipartisan proposal to expand background checks to gun shows and Internet sales fails in the Senate in a 54-46 vote, in a major setback for people control.

You notice I said “people” there? The reason is that this new control legislation if passed, by admission of it’s own supporters, would have done nothing to reduce school shootings or violent acts by criminals. It was a poorly crafted, emotional response to a tragedy that’s root cause is mental illness and psychotropic drug use. We hear a lot about how to limit the freedoms of law-abiding citizens, not much on keeping guns from criminals.

In other news from the Texas Senate:

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) – The Texas Senate has voted to have the state pay for some teachers to get special training to respond to school shooting situations. Texas law already allows school districts to let teachers who have concealed handgun license holders to carry their weapons onto campus. The Senate wants the state pay for those teachers to have special weapons and response training. The bill limits the training to two teachers per school. Sen. Dan Patrick, a Houston Republican, says the Texas Department of Public Safety will develop the training. Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst proposed the idea after the December 2012 shootings at an elementary school in Newtown, Conn. Patrick says that shooting “changed the landscape of school safety.” The bill now goes to the House for consideration.

Though this is a victory for 2nd Amendment supporters, it is not the end of the war on our freedoms. Stay vigilant, keep fighting!
