With its entire team of heroes, new allies and villains, Kurt Russell and Sylvester Stallone, and five post-credits scenes, you can forgive Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 for having to cut a few things. Nathan Fillion, who previously worked with James Gunn on Slither, filmed a cameo in the upcoming Marvel sequel, but it ultimately wound up on the cutting room floor. And although we’ll probably never get to see the actual scene, Fillion received permission to share a special behind-the-scenes photo of his character.

The actor shared the following photo on Instagram, with the caption, “From a scene you won’t see in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,” adding, “Is the movie still spectacular without it? Yes.”

A series of photos that surfaced from the set last April suggested that Fillion’s role would be that of Wonder-Man, aka Simon Williams. The scene in question took place at a fictional film festival hosted by Williams, and included posters for fake movies like Tony Stark (in the vein of Steve Jobs) and Arkon (another Marvel character). What’s particularly interesting about this photo is that Fillion’s appearance looks very similar to Arkon — or at least how the character appears on the fake movie poster from last year’s set pics, which seems to indicate that Fillion was playing Arkon, not Simon Williams / Wonder-Man, all along. Could the shot above be from the fake Arkon movie? If so, it’s a bummer that we won’t get to see it.

Even without Fillion’s cameo, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will still have plenty of surprises and special treats for fans when it hits theaters on May 5.
