Midland police have been alerted to a new scam that is calling residents.

According to NewsWest 9, there is an IRS phone scam going on that citizens of the Basin need to be aware of.

If you get a call from someone claiming to be an IRS agent, take down their name and badge number and contact the IRS to check on the validity of their employment with the agency.

Do not give out personal information such as social security number or drivers license numbers until you have verified they are real IRS agents.

If you feel you have been contacted by a scammer and want to file a report, you can do so by filing a scam report with the Treasury Department.
