Out with the old and in with the new has been the mantra of downtown Midland, the latest demolition is now scheduled for the old Midland Center.

According to NewsWest 9, the demolition of the Midland Center is scheduled to begin sometime in February to make way for a new and bigger facility.

The Midland Center opened in the early 80's and has served Midland for over 30 years, but the new convention center will be much larger according to city officials.

The current building is 12,000 sq. ft. and the new building is expected to be 20,000 sq. ft. with another 9,000 sq. ft. of public meeting place.

The new convention center is scheduled to open in summer of 2019. To watch and keep up with the progress of the new convention center the Doubletree Hotel will put up a live webcam once construction begins on the new facility.
