Medication take back events happen periodically in the area, but there is a place to take your old and unused medication anytime in Odessa, and it is a success.

According to NewsWest 9, since 2014 take back boxes have been located in the Odessa Police Department and the Ector County Sheriff's Office.

In just three years the boxes have collected more than 1,000 pounds of pills.

Officials remind you that old, unused, or outdated medication is not good if dumped into the landfills or flushed into the water system so that is why the boxes were placed in those locations by the Permian Basin Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse.

If you want to drop off any out dated or unused medication, you can do so at the Odessa Police Station 24/7/365, or from 8am-5pm Monday through Friday at the Ector County Sheriff's Office.

Remember syringes, inhalers, or any liquids are not allowed at the take back boxes at anytime.
