For eons humankind hath yearned for the male equivalent to Meryl Streep, and though we searched for many a fortnight, not one could be found. But lo! From Broadway on high came Lin-Manuel Miranda with the generous gift of Hamilton: An American Musical, and our long search came to a joyful end. Seriously, though, this guy is everywhere and does everything, and he’s adding yet another ambitious project to his plan for world domination.

The Wrap reports that Lin-Manuel Miranda — musical and lyrical genius, acclaimed actor, Disney MVP, drunk historian and wordsmith — is teaming up with Lionsgate for a sprawling adaptation of The Kingkiller Chronicle, based on Patrick Rothfuss’ beloved trilogy of epic fantasy novels. Miranda will serve as creative producer on the project, which includes plans to adapt the story into film(s) and a tie-in TV series.

In addition to working alongside Rothfuss to bring The Kingkiller Chronicle to life, Miranda will compose original music and write songs (of course) for the film and TV adaptations. Rothfuss’ trilogy centers on Kvothe (which sounds sort of like “Quothe”), a man who is both hero and villain in the countless tall tales of his own life. Those tales are told to a Chronicler who discovers Kvothe, long believed to be dead, working as an innkeeper.

Here’s the official synopsis for the first book, titled The Name of the Wind:

The riveting first-person narrative of a young man who grows to be the most notorious magician his world has ever seen. From his childhood in a troupe of traveling players, to years spent as a near-feral orphan in a crime- ridden city, to his daringly brazen yet successful bid to enter a legendary school of magic, The Name of the Wind is a masterpiece that transports readers into the body and mind of a wizard. It is a high-action novel written with a poet's hand, a powerful coming-of-age story of a magically gifted young man, told through his eyes: to read this book is to be the hero.

That definitely sounds like the perfect project for Miranda to tackle, no? Development appears to be in the early stages, so it’s unclear which television network might air the tie-in series or when the first film will head into production.
