Lesser Prairie Chicken Taken Off the Threatened Species List, Oil and Gas Producers in the Basin Rejoice
The Lesser Prairie Chicken has caused trouble for the oil and gas industry, but now it has been taken off the threatened species list.
According to NewsWest 9, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has officially taken the Lesser Prairie Chicken off the threatened species list after being put on it back in 2014.
The removal of the bird comes after the Permian Basin Petroleum Association filed suit against the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service back in 2014, a ruling in September 2015 sided with the oil and gas industry.
This means that oil and gas production in the area will no longer be effected by the bird and can continue as it did before it was put on the threatened species list.
