She isn’t appearing in an upcoming episode of ‘The Walking Dead’ or filming a new horror flick, nor was she in any kind of terrible accident. But Kim Kardashian’s face did get pretty bloody.

And she did it on purpose. For beauty, or maybe attention. Take your pick.

Regardless, the video and photo here aren't for you if the sight of blood and needles makes you queasy.

So, to understand what’s going on here, you have to know that blood facials are a thing. HuffPo talked to a doctor named Sam Lam (who sounds like but isn't a Dr. Seuss character) and here's how he explained them:

"The patient's own platelet rich plasma (PRP) is applied to the skin preceded by a laser treatment and followed by a micro-needling process in which the skin is perforated with near microscopic holes. The growth factors in the platelet rich plasma reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles while improving the skin’s tone and texture.”

Right after it makes you look like you’re attending Stephen King’s version of prom, that is.

In yet another exciting episode of ‘Kourtney and Kim Take Miami,’ Kim hears about the blood facial and she's all over it because, according to her, “I love trying anything that makes you look and feel youthful.”

For the procedure, Kim’s own blood was removed from her arm with a decent-sized needle, and then spun in a machine that removes the platelets. Finally, the blood was “splattered” on to her face so that the plasma could rejuvenate her skin, as it allegedly does. The fun part is that to do the aforementioned “splattering,” the doc used nine tiny acupuncture-like needles to poke her famous face.

There was numbing cream to ease the pain but it didn't seem to help much. Kim may have put on a brave and bloody face (that she of course later posted to Instagram, as is her way), but when those needles went to town, she cried, “Owwww. Oh my God. I will never get a facelift if it feels like that.”

Where was this procedure before Joan Rivers first went under the knife?
