Sorry not sorry about that headline, folks, but a trailer for a new Wes Anderson movie is something to get super-silly-stoked about. For his second stop-motion animated film, the director who’s made a habit of killing dogs in his movies finally gives canines their due. The first trailer for Isle of Dogs has arrived, and I regret to inform you that it’s going to make the wait until next March that much more painful.

There’s definitely an aesthetic similarity to Anderson’s first stop-motion animated film, Fantastic Mr. Fox — you can really see it in the design of the dogs. Other than the animated aspect, Isle of Dogs feels and sounds like a Wes Anderson film: Funny, idiosyncratic, and weirdly heartwarming, with a stellar voice cast. The lineup includes Anderson vets and newbies alike: Bryan Cranston, Bill Murray, Scarlett Johansson, Tilda Swinton, Edward Norton, Greta Gerwig, Yoko Ono (!), Jeff Goldblum, Akira Ito, Kunichi Nomura, Akira Takayama and Koyu Rankin.

The trailer also finally clues us in to the film’s plot. It’s set in Japan, where a local mayor has decided to solve the dog overpopulation (over-pupulation? SORRY NOT SORRY AGAIN) problem by sending them all to a dump hilariously dubbed Trash Island.

Here’s the official synopsis:

ISLE OF DOGS tells the story of ATARI KOBAYASHI, 12-year-old ward to corrupt Mayor Kobayashi. When, by Executive Decree, all the canine pets of Megasaki City are exiled to a vast garbage-dump called Trash Island, Atari sets off alone in a miniature Junior-Turbo Prop and flies across the river in search of his bodyguard-dog, Spots. There, with the assistance of a pack of newly-found mongrel friends, he begins an epic journey that will decide the fate and future of the entire Prefecture.

Isle of Dogs hits theaters on March 23, 2018.
