The Historic Spring that Big Spring is named for re-opened this week after a restoration project.

According to NewsWest 9, The restoration project took 11 months and now the finished product is read for the public to see.

The spring includes new features like three waterfalls, three observation decks, an expanded walking trail, and eight storyboards that tell the historic importance of the spring to West Texas.

Historians say that all the towns and cities west of Weatherford are all here because of the discovery of the spring which was one of the few sources of water in West Texas.

The restoration of the Big Spring State Park and the historic spring were funded by the city's hotel and motel tax.
