Part of the allure of seeing Marvel's 'Guardians of the Galaxy' brought to life on the big screen are the live-action renderings of Groot, the tree-like alien, and Rocket Raccoon, a glunslinging, talking raccoon. While Vin Diesel, who's voicing the former, has already given us some incite and details on his superhero character, Bradley Cooper has remained quiet on the subject. Fortunately, 'Guardians' leader Chris Pratt (Star-Lord) offered up the details.

We already know that director James Gunn is utilizing rotomation technology with an actual raccoon to create the character for the screen, but what we're expecting from the actual character comes from comic book-based presumptions. As Pratt revealed to Access Hollywood recently, there's more to this little creature than meets the eye:

You think it’s a cartoon character, but it’s not, it’s a very real creature ...

[Rocket Raccoon has been] tortured his whole life and no one else likes him, so he’s lonely and he’s angry and it’s like, [there are] all these elements [to the character] ...

You sort of forget about that, you wouldn’t think about, [and] hopefully will come to life. I think it will and that’s why they hired a really good actor to do the role.

Certainly he looks the part of a cuddly critter, but he can get a bit gun happy when he wants to. The comics established Rocket Raccoon as a Guardian of the Keystone Quadrant, which is an insane asylum for the intergalactic crazies and is protected by other anthropomorphized animals. While Rocket doesn't have any traditional superpowers (unless you call being a talking raccoon "super"), he knows how to handle a laser pistol and his pair of rocket skates, which enable him to fly short distances.

"I could not be more excited that Bradley Cooper is voicing Rocket Raccoon," continued Pratt. "It’s a great character. It’s probably the best character in the movie, just because it’s not what you would expect."

Also starring in the film are Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana, Michael Rooker, Benicio Del Toro, Lee Pace, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, Gregg Henry, Glenn Close and John C. Reilly. 'Guardians of the Galaxy' recently wrapped principal photography and is set for release on August 1, 2014.
