Even as we’ve given up the ghost of Gotham’s Bat-timeline ever making sense, Season 3 certainly rocketed along with its introduction of Ra’s al Ghul, and Bruce taking to the streets. Now, star David Mazouz definitively claims “Batman is coming,” noting that writers have accelerated their plans.

Keep in mind that Mazouz was also the one to claim Harley Quinn would make in appearance in Season 3's finale, though the Gotham star told ComicBook.com that Season 4 wouldn’t shy away from Bruce’s newly-literal fight for justice. We last saw the young Wayne dressed in black and beating up muggers in an alley (you know, healthy teenage stuff), which Mazouz claims will evolve into the Batman persona in Season 4:

Bruce really is taking on this vigilante persona and all the things that go along with that. Whether it be creating another persona, a public persona, that’s also definitely going to be a major part of Bruce’s journey this year. His relationship as this other person. Batman is coming. Absolutely.

Another thing I was worried about was we were going to get to Season 4 and the writers were going to go, ‘You know, I think we took it a little too far too fast. Let’s backtrack.’ And the exact opposite happened. The trajectory is just continuing in that direction. I would say, I would know it’s accelerating in that direction. It’s not going to stop.

Gotham more or less skated by to a fourth season renewal, so it remains to be seen how long Batman’s beginning will actually run. We already know Alexander Siddig’s Ra’s al Ghul will have a larger presence on the show next year, so might Bruce finally don that cape and cowl as early as Season 4, or 5?

We’ll hear more from Comic-Con 2017 in the coming weeks, so stay tuned.
