You know, it's been a good amount of time since we'd heard anything noteworthy on the 'Game of Thrones' casting front, surviving off recent set pictures until this latest announcement. Suffice to say, it isn't a direction we expected HBO's George R.R. Martin fantasy epic to take. Sources report that Coldplay drummer Will Champion has been added to the cast of 'Game of Thrones' season 3, but what role could he possibly play?

Curious, but nonetheless intriguing news on the 'Game of Thrones' season 3 casting front today, as Entertainment Weekly revealed that Coldplay drummer Will Champion has been chosen to take a role in the upcoming season, which debuts on HBO March 31. According to the report, Champion will portray...drum roll, please...a drummer! See what we did there?

There are certain implications hardcore fans of the 'Song of Ice and Fire' series could make about what significance a drummer might have in the coming season, but we'll leave that to your spoiler-free imaginations for the moment. Interestingly, Champion isn't the only famed musician making an appearance in 'Game of Thrones' season 3, as earlier in the summer Snow Patrol singer Gary Lightbody was cast in a similarly vague cameo appearance.

Elsewhere, the coming season will include a diverse crop of new faces ranging from Ed Skrein, Jacob Anderson, Ciaran Hinds, Diana Rigg, Mackenzie Crook, Clive Russell, Nathalie Emannuel, Iwan Rheon, Kerry Ingram, Tara Fitzgerald, Paul Kaye, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Ellie Kendirck, Richard Dormer, Kristofer Hivju, Philip McGinley, Tobias Menzies and Anton Lesser.

What say you? Who do you think Coldplay's Will Champion might play in 'Game of Thrones' season 3? Tell us what you want to see from the new season!
