We've known for awhile now that given its 13-episode run, 'Fringe' season 5 wouldn't have time for the same kind of side-stories and divergences of previous seasons, instead keeping focus through its 2036 narrative of the Fringe team working to defeat the Observers.  The team experienced an unexpected hiccup in their plan after last week's season 5 premiere "Transilience Thought Unifier Model-11," but is there a new plan in motion?  What strange course of action does the latest promo advise we take?

Trust the tapes?  What tapes?  Who in their right mind would still be using tapes, especially in the year 2036?  The latest mystery of 'Fringe' season 5 is afoot, as FOX has released an intriguing (if brief) new promo where a tattered image of Walter Bishop informs us that we were chosen for something, destined even, as a message on screen advises us to "#TrustTheTapes!"  What in the world could that mean?

Hopefully, we'll get some kind of clarification when October 5 sees the premiere of the second installment of 'Fringe's final season, "In Absentia."  There, the Fringe team struggles to devise another plan for defeating the Observers, as the one previously hidden in Walter Bishop's mind seems to be lost.  Might they recover something from the new "Oracle" figure, to be played by singer Jill Scott?

Take a look at the cryptic message below, and tell us what you think "Trust the Tapes" is all about in the comments!
