The search is over to find the family of the military medals found in a dumpster in Midland last week.

NewsWest 9 originally reported on the medals that were found in a dumpster and I also wrote an article about it on Monday.

Well the search is over and the family of the soldier to whom the medals were awarded has been found.

Tips came pouring in after the story aired on NewsWest 9 and veteran Gary Kennedy has found Tommy Carter, the nephew of Jim C. Carter.

Tommy revealed that his uncle Jim passed away in 1982 and that his aunt and uncle lived in Midland.

He also revealed that they had no children of their own and were like a second set of parents to him who now lives in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area.

Gary Kennedy and the Carter family are planning to meet in Abilene next week on Tuesday so the medals can be returned to their rightful owners.
