Ewan McGregor to Play Winnie the Pooh’s BFF in ‘Christopher Robin’
Even though Jean Dujardin was the obvious choice, Ewan McGregor delivered a perfectly charming take on Lumiere in Disney’s live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast. Not only was the film a huge hit at the box-office (breaking a record previously held by Star Wars — STAR WARS), but it seems like McGregor was a hit with Disney, as the studio is eyeing the actor to take the lead in another live-action project based on a beloved classic property.
Per Variety, McGregor is in talks to star in Christopher Robin, a new, live-action Winnie the Pooh movie in which he’ll play the BFF of everyone’s favorite tubby little cubby all stuffed with fluff. Marc Forster (World War Z) will direct the film, which is more sequel-of-sorts than reimagining. The story centers on a grown-up Christopher Robin who hasn’t merely matured beyond the imaginary world of the Hundred Acre Wood — he’s lost his childhood sense of imagination entirely.
Sure, the plot description sounds a little like Hook or (worse) Seth MacFarlane’s Ted, but keep in mind that Christopher Robin was initially being written by Alex Ross Perry (Queen of Earth). Although Hidden Figures scribe Allison Schroeder has replaced Perry on scripting duties, I have to wonder how much of his original story remains. With Ewan McGregor on board — and with his other great, recent performances in T2 and Fargo — Christopher Robin could be pretty great.
