On Wednesday, Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) volunteers who are representing officers from across the Permian Basin will be gathering in front of the Odessa Police Department to kick off the Law Enforcement Torch Run West Texas Leg.

This is the Special Olympics’ largest grassroots fundraiser and public awareness event.

Starting at 8:30AM, officers will run to the Odessa Police Department from 3rd and Golder. Chief Burton will then address these men and women who dedicate their year-round volunteer and fundraising efforts to support Special Olympics Texas. Police officers will then lead the torch runners south on Grant Ave to Murphy Street, carrying the ceremonial torch along their way.

This Law Enforcement Torch run began in 1985 and last year, it raised more than $1.5 million dollars. Special Olympics Texas provides year-round sports training and athletic competition for over 26,000 children and adults with intellectual disabilities.
