Tragedy struck Eagles member Randy Meisner Sunday night (March 6) when his wife, Lana Rae, was shot dead. According to TMZ, Lana Rae was shot and killed at the couple's home in Studio City, Calif., after a domestic dispute.

However, LAPD have cleared Randy Meisner, concluding that Lana Rae accidentally shot herself "moving a rifle that was stored inside the closet."

Law enforcement tell TMZ that an hour and a half before Randy Meisner called to report Lana Rae was shot, she called 911 and reported domestic violence in their home and that her husband had a BB gun and was "acting erratically."

Randy Meisner called officials at 6:59PM and reported that his wife went into another room, closed the door and a gunshot was heard. Once he entered the room he saw that she was dead due to being shot in the head. The gun is said to have discharged while still inside of its soft gun case.

The former Eagled member was later taken to the hospital after "acting in an altered state."

This isn't the first time that there has been trouble in the Meisner home. It has been reported that the couple had conflicts in the past and Randy's children tried to get a conservatorship due to his alleged mental instability.

Meisner is a founding member of the Eagles. The bassist and backing vocalist is well known for his time in the the band, as well as being a session musician. He is best known for his contribution to the Eagles' "Take It to the Limit," which he co-wrote with Don Henley and Glenn Frey and sang on. The song was released in November of 1975 and went to No. 4 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart.
