After a lengthy battle with bile duct cancer, Doors keyboardist and co-founder Ray Manzarek passed away today (May 20). He was 74 years old.

TMZ is reporting that Manzarek was at the RoMed Clinic in Rosenheim, Germany when he died.

Said Doors guitarist Robby Krieger of the news, "I was deeply saddened to hear about the passing of my friend and bandmate Ray Manzarek. I'm just glad to have been able to have played Doors songs with him for the last decade. Ray was a huge part of my life and I will always miss him."

While Jim Morrison was certainly the best-known member of the Doors, Manzarek's jazz and classical-influenced keyboards gave the band its signature sound on classic tracks like 'Light My Fire,' 'Hello, I Love You,' 'L.A.Woman,' and 'Break On Through to the Other Side.'

Manzarek is survived by his wife, three brothers (who were with him at the time of his passing), son and three grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations in Ray's name to standup2cancer.org.
