Demi Lovato Talks ‘Soulful’ Sixth Album: ‘I Don’t Care About Radio Hits’
Demi Lovato's climbed the Billboard Hot 100 charts with hits like "Cool For The Summer," "Give Your Heart A Break" and "Heart Attack" over the years, but according to a new interview, that's not something she's particularly trying to achieve.
The Confident belter recently posed for the June/July 2016 issue of Latina, in which she spoke her mind about everything from Kesha's legal battle with Dr. Luke ("It’s very f--ked up that he’s not letting her go") to mental health advocacy.
And when it came time to discuss new music, Demi — in usual Demi form — didn't hold back.
"I don’t care about radio hits. When you try hard for that, it doesn’t happen. It’s songs like ‘Stone Cold’ that I don’t get tired of singing on tour. I get tired of singing ‘Give Your Heart a Break’ and even ‘Confident’ already. I have yet to reach my peak, and also, my voice is better now than it was a year ago. Now I can show people what I can do.”
As opposed to whipping up some radio-friendly bops, Demi's evidently focused on drawing from her experience over the past year, during which she's lost several loved ones.
“There’s a lot of pain that I experienced over the past year, and I’m so ready to write about it. I’ve stayed sober through it all, I’m a stronger person, but it’s definitely been a very painful year,” she said, explaining that her next album "will have a more soulful vibe."
Lovatics, prepare for the music to sound a lot less "Cool For The Summer" and a whole lot more "Stone Cold" on Demi's sixth LP.
