Apple isn’t messing around with breaking into the original content ring. The company has already given series orders to a Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston drama about morning shows, a Kristin Wiig comedy series, and Steven Spielberg’s Amazing Stories. As if that wasn’t enough, Apple has decided to jazz up their upcoming TV slate with a new Damien Chazelle project (which may or may not be about jazz, we really have no clue yet).

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Apple has given a straight-to-series order to a new series helmed by the Oscar-winning director. The La La Land filmmaker will write and direct the series, described as nothing other than an “innovative” drama – hey, jazz is innovative… There’s no word on how many episodes there will be yet, but Chazelle will write and direct all of them.

This follows news of Chazelle’s deal with Netflix for The Eddy, a contemporary musical drama series. That show will be set at a jazz club (NO WAY!) in Paris with original music from Grammy winner Glen Ballard and episodes penned by Harry Potter and the Cursed Child writer Jack Thorne. Chazelle is executive producing the Netflix show and will direct two episodes. He’s also keeping busy with his Ryan Gosling-led Neil Armstrong biopic, First Man, set to open October 12, and his script for thriller The Claim is in the works with director Ericson Core. Prepare for lots of Chazelle!
