The City of Odessa will temporarily change the method used in water disinfection beginning this Saturday, June 1, 2019.

According to the Odessa American, residents should begin to notice a chlorine or bleach smell in the water but it is nothing to be concerned about.

The new method of disinfecting the water supply this year will be just a chlorine flush and not the usual chlorine/ammonia flush that has been done in the past.

The change in disinfection method will be implemented along with notifying the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) of the change to make sure that it is the best method of chlorine residuals through the distribution system.

The chlorine flush will be completed on June 30, 2019.
