Midland residents have been heading to the doctor in droves lately with a wave of gastrointestinal infections.

According to the Midland Reporter-Telegram, city officials are trying to determine if the infections are being caused by a common source because of the number of cases diagnosed in the past week.

The symptoms include vomiting, diarrhea, nausea or abdominal pain and usually last four to seven days.

As of now no common source of the infection has been found but officials are encouraging residents to wash hands effectively with soap and water and to wash all fruits and vegetables before eating them.
