Because of the recent death of a teen that fell 11 stories in an abandoned building downtown, officials from the city are now doing more to close up any openings in those abandoned buildings.

According to NewsWest 9, the openings in the old Western United Life Building have now been closed off since the death of John Butler this past weekend.

The building is owned by a man in California and he had put bars up on the windows this past spring to prevent anyone from coming in, but those bars were broken sometime since then which allowed the teens access.

City officials hope more owners of buildings downtown keep tabs on them and make sure access points are all closed off to keep anyone from getting in.
