Disney Can’t Seem to Find Actors for Guy Ritchie’s Live-Action ‘Aladdin’

Disney has several live-action remakes in development, but two titles in particular have attracted a little extra attention: Aladdin and Mulan. Although pop culture is becoming increasingly socially conscious, Hollywood’s unfortunate history of whitewashing has left many (rightfully) concerned over the casting for both of these films, especially since the studio behind them doesn’t exactly have the best track record with diversity. And while Disney has made it clear that they’re committed to casting actors of relevant ethnicity in Aladdin and Mulan, a new report reveals that the studio is struggling to do so for at least one of those projects.

‘Wonder Woman 2’ Will Reportedly Be Set in the 1980s and May Bring Back Chris Pine

The Wonder Woman sequel train has pulled out of the station, and even with Patty Jenkins’ crossover superhero hit still playing in theaters, it’s already begun to pick up steam. Star Gal Gadot will return for the second solo project for the indestructible Amazon, they’ve landed writer Geoff Johns (who co-produced the Green Lantern movie, so, yikes) to handle the script, and while Jenkins has yet to put her Jane Hancock on the dotted line for another film, details of plot are now solidifying. For Wonder Woman, Diana battled those no-good fascists in World War I, and the sequel will reportedly plop her down in another historical era to intervene in a real-life global crisis. This time, the Rooskies will be the ones shaking in their boots.

John Williams Won’t Be Scoring Spielberg’s ‘Ready Player One,’ But Is Still Onboard ‘The Papers’

John Williams is one of Steven Spielberg’s most frequent collaborators, and earlier this year he was set to score both of the director’s upcoming movies: Pentagon Papers drama The Papers and pop culture-infused sci-fi Ready Player One. But because both of these movies are being put together at about the same time (Ready Player One’s production began last year, and The Papers was filmed this spring in a matter of weeks for a December release) Williams has had to give up scoring duties on the latter in favor of the former.

Johnny Depp Almost Starred in ‘Face/Off’ Until He Realized It Wasn’t About Hockey

Movies are a mixture of talent, art, skill, business, and stupid luck. For a fascinating example of all of the above, I direct your attention to a great article at Shortlist (via The Playlist) about the history of Face/Off...

Tom Cruise Gets the Gang Back Together in New ‘Mission: Impossible 6’ Photo

Look, we’re already pretty pumped for the next Mission: Impossible sequel — with Christopher McQuarrie at the helm, both Rebecca Ferguson and Michelle Monaghan on tap, and all this talk of Tom Cruise performing his most daring stunt yet, we’re more than adequately excited. All those sneak peeks McQuarrie & Co. have been sharing from the set of the sixth installment are just a series of added bonuses.

Ryan Gosling Reportedly Wants to Play Willy Wonka

Ryan Gosling is about to play himself. (In the DJ Khaled sense, not the Being John Malkovich sense.) The actor’s been on something of a roll recently, scoring critical plaudits for The Nice Guys and La La Land last year — the latter of which ended up a surprise blockbuster and less-surprise Oscar hoarder — and continuing on into 2017 with this past spring’s Song to Song. He’s got Blade Runner 2049 on the docket for this fall, a likely smash that may earn him admiration among nerd circles, the last niche demographic he has not yet charmed. But with the world at his feet, Gosling’s now making moves to dash all the goodwill he’s recently built up.

Answer: Shia LaBeouf

Shia LaBeouf Back in Trouble With the Law After Drunken Cigarette-Bumming Gone Wrong

Shia LaBeouf gets arrested a lot. And not “a lot” relative to law-abiding namby-pambies like you or me, I mean “a lot” relative to a street-level Adderall dealer. There was the incident in 2005, where he got an assault with a deadly weapon charge after threatening his neighbor by driving directly into his car, the 2007 arrest outside a Chicago Walgreens, the 2008 drunk driving accident and subsequent license suspension, the 2011 bar fight, the 2014 disorderly conduct charge outside Studio 54, a public intoxication arrest in 2015, and then a minor harassment violation back in this most recent January during an anti-Trump demonstration. That’s quite the rap sheet, but it’s like the old judicial system proverb goes: “Seven strikes and you’re out, unless you’re famous and wealthy, in which case just try to be more careful next time.”

Bond 25 Daniel Craig
Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures/Columbia Pictures/EON Productions

Rumor Has It Daniel Craig (and Adele!) Have Agreed to Return for ‘Bond 25’

If we’re lucky, every few years we’re treated to a will-they-or-won’t-they love story that sparks our imagination and warms our hearts. Ross and Rachel from Friends. Jim and Pam from The Office. Daniel and Barbara from Bond 25. Yes, these are classic, iconic love stories, where two people who are destined to be together must nevertheless fight through a series of unfortunate events before going public with their mutual love and affection. Which is all a complicated and jokey way of saying, c’mon, Daniel Craig and Barbara Broccoli, we know y’all are going to make Bond 25 happen, so just do it already!

Weekend Box Office Report: ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ Nails the Stark Internship

Did any new releases come out this weekend? I honestly can’t remember. Someone mentioned that there was a new Marvel movie in theaters - one featuring some sort of Spider-Person - but that can’t be right. I feel like I would’ve seen that, perhaps promoted on an unprecedented level for any superhero movie? Hmm. Well, anyways, here’s the weekend box office estimates as of Sunday afternoon:
