Building of the Southwest in Midland Could Now Be Demolished

Asbestos removal is currently being done to the 50 year old building when it was discovered that replacement of the roof could be costly.

According to the Midland Reporter-Telegram, City Council on Tuesday authorized a request for proposals for the demolition of the building.

Asbestos removal is currently in progress at the building which is when it was discovered that the roof was in such a state of damage that it would cost more than a half million dollars to repair.

The Building of the Southwest was built in 1967 but was abandoned in the bust of the mid-1980's and has since fallen into disrepair from decades of neglect.

The city has stated they would pay for the demolition of the building if the structure is deemed too fragile after the asbestos removal.
