In news that will make some of you very happy (looking at you, Matt Singer), Arnold Schwarzenegger says that he’s actively meeting with directors for his long-developing Conan the Barbarian sequel. Previously known as The Legend of Conan, the screenplay for the project is now complete and it may have a shiny new title.

During the “Experience With Arnold Schwarzenegger” event in Birmingham and Edinburgh (via ScreenRant), the actor gave fans an update on the new Conan movie, which would serve as a direct sequel to John Milius’ epic Conan the Barbarian and ignore the 1984 sequel, Conan the Destroyer. While speaking about the film, Schwarzenegger may have revealed a new title:

Conan the Conqueror, where I’m sitting on the throne for years and years – decades, and then all of the sudden, the time comes when they want to overthrow me. So that story WILL be told and that movie WILL be done.

Schwarzenegger is referring to the end if Milius’ 1982 film, in which we see a much older and maybe wiser (he does have a beard) version of the mighty warrior as a king, sitting on his throne.

Conan the Conqueror was the title originally planned to close out the trilogy, but development stalled out in the late ’80s as Schwarzenegger went on to film Predator. If this is the new title of the film formerly known as The Legend of Conan, it’s a good one.

Fast & Furious franchise scribe and producer Chris Morgan penned the new Conan screenplay with Oscar-nominated Straight Outta Compton screenwriter Andrea Berloff. Schwarzenegger goes on to say that he and Morgan are currently meeting with directors:

Yes, Chris Morgan and I are meeting with directors at this moment. Interest is high, many are fans of Conan but we are not rushing. We have a great script and now we need the right director for the job.

Although it may be a little while longer before the new Conan sequel officially gets going, rest assured that Schwarzenegger wants to make the best possible version of this thing. Hopefully it’ll be worth the wait.
