It’s sad to hear Alan Rickman’s voice.

We lost the great Die Hard and Harry Potter star just a few weeks ago; Rickman died after a battle with pancreatic cancer at the age of 69. His work in Alice Through the Looking Glass is his final onscreen performance; he plays Absolem, the Caterpillar. That’s him saying “You’ve been gone too long Alice. There are matters that cannot be neglected.”

We also cannot neglect to note that this is the Super Bowl ad for the big sequel to 2010’s live-action Disney adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland. The first film was directed by Tim Burton and became an enormously popular hit all around the world, grossing more than $1 billion worldwide along with another $100 million in home video sales. For this follow-up, Burton only remains in a producing role; he’s ceded the director’s chair to James Bobin, the man behind The Muppets and Muppets Most Wanted.

Bobin does still have most of Burton’s cast though, including Rickman, Mia Wasikowska as Alice, Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter, Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen, Stephen Fry, as the Cheshire Cat, and Anne Hathaway as the White Queen. The big additions to Through the Looking Glass are Sacha Baron Cohen as the embodiment of time and Rhys Ifans as the Mad Hatter’s dad.

Even with the switch of directors, this Alice certainly looks like a direct continuation of the last one. Whether that’s a good thing or not will depend on your opinion of the Burton Alice. Clearly some folks liked it; it made $1 billion. Some might agree with Depp’s Mad Hatter, though, when he says in this trailer “This cannot be good!” Hopefully he’s mistaken. Alice Through the Looking Glass opens in theaters on May 27.
