This morning I interviewed a very special woman with the Midland Rape Crisis/Child Advocacy Center, who shared her story of how an advocate helped her recover after a horrific attack.

Shannon Anderson has been helping victims of sexual assault for years now at the MRC/CAC and this morning she came on the show to ask others to become volunteers, advocates for those in need.

The class will be to train the volunteer advocates for staffing the hotline and to accompany sexual assault victims to the hospital for medical and forensic exams. Volunteers may also accompany victims to the police station and into court. The training is 40 hours and includes homework and on-the-job training. Anyone who is interested must complete an application and a background check. The deadline for applications is October 23, 2013. For more information call the center at 432-682-7273

You can make a difference in someone's life who is hurting. Please volunteer today.
