5 Easy Ways To Quickly Destress
Tuesday morning I shared some easy and unexpected ways that you can relieve stress quickly.
We all need to take the edge off these days, but we don't always have time to get to the gym or punch a heavy bag. Here is list of easy ways that experts say you can destress right in your office.
1. Wash your hands in warm water.
There are many actions that we can feel drawn to naturally that help our body’s self-soothing mechanisms, the ability to come down the other side of the heightened stress response.
2. Stretch your facial muscles by making ugly faces.
Stress creates a lock-down effect on the body with tense jaw, headaches and teeth grinding common stress-related symptoms.
3. Chew on a stalk of celery.
Research has shown that chewing helps to reduce cortisol levels.
My wife swears by this one. Stress has us in conflict between our logical higher left brain and our primal emotional lower brain, leaving little room for reflection and creative thought.
5. Pinch your eyebrows.
The stress response involves a clenching of the jaw that is designed to increase blood flow around the brain to prepare us for quick responses, but we can get stuck in this furrowed brow phase.
